AIGA-GMU and Focus Group
I worked with fellow GMU designer Vinh Le to brand AIGA-GMU, the student association for design at George Mason, for our Fall 2011 launch. We chose our official colors and stuck with them for the entire school year. Because one of our goals as an organization is to establish a greater sense of community in the School of Art at George Mason, we made a collage of icons, words and logos that are familiar to all Mason art majors, as well as including words that describe AIGA-GMU specifically.
Spring semester of my sophomore year, I worked closely with some friends to create Focus Group, the photography student organization. My major is graphic design, but I was formally trained as a studio photographer for two years prior to enrolling at George Mason. I was in charge of choosing a name for the group and creating all branding materials and posters for the Spring 2011 semester.

I chose the name Focus Group because of its double meaning. A focus group is a place where different people express their unique opinions, and our student org is a diverse collection of film photographers, studio photographers, wedding photographers, fine art photographers, even videographers. What we all have in common, though, is the camera itself and its ability to focus. Hence, Focus Group. The logo is the shape of the inside of the lens, or the aperture.
